A ruby anniversary for Mgr Gordon Read
Monsignor Gordon Read of Brentwood Diocese this year celebrates the 40th anniversary of his priestly ordination. As the National Chaplain of the Latin Mass Society, we made a little presentation to him at our annual get-together of Local Representatives in London.
Our gift was a minature chalice--for travelling. It came with a paten and a cruet with a screw-top lid, also intended for travel.
Mgr Read is a very distinguished canon lawyer, and the Chancellor of his diocese. It is not just an honour for the Latin Mass Society to have him as our Chaplain, but a matter of frequent practical assistance to be able to call on his advice. He is of course unusual in his interest in the Traditional Mass, which he has been saying since a few weeks after his ordination, in his generation, ordained in 1976. Ad multos annos!
The meeting - the Joint Meeting of Representatives and the Committee - was well attended, and we were bursting out of the dining room at Our Lady of the Assumption, Warwick Street, where it took place, with a good number of new Representatives. The basement parish hall at Warwick Street is being refurbished and is nearly finished, so we'll have more room next year!
The photos were taken by Clare Bowskill.
